Why you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you

Via BoingBoing:

I'm not saying that the police officer (BTW, are 911 dispatchers police officers? I thought it was more like a call center or some kind of switchboard) is completely blameless. His conduct was unprofessional and was not completely forthcoming when he realized the consequences of his action.

However, this girl is not some poster child for free speech (i.e. anti-censorship) movement. She was a disrespectful hot head. The officer did say "... slow down", in the first response. Her saying "What the fuck" before the answer is, well, understandable. Her "send me a fucking ambulance" is not. What she should have done is calmly explain her situation, specifically, why she needs an ambulance so that the dispatcher can send an appropriate response. (BTW, note that the first two times, it was she who hung up; the dispatcher was responding in kind—yes, it's unprofessional but he's only human.)

She made the dispatcher's job as difficult as it could possibly be, and the response she got isn't entirely unexpected. In the ideal world, even the most rude and disrepectful person cursing right at the dispatchers would get service (after all, that's what the government is for—save those too stupid and rude to get others to save them), but, well, they are human, too.
