Rasmussen: Young adults prefer capitalism to socialism by … four points

HotAir.com reports:

Adults under 30 are essentially evenly divided: 37% prefer capitalism, 33% socialism, and 30% are undecided. Thirty-somethings are a bit more supportive of the free-enterprise approach with 49% for capitalism and 26% for socialism. Adults over 40 strongly favor capitalism, and just 13% of those older Americans believe socialism is better…

As they say, "if you have never been a liberal before 30, you have no heart, but if you are not a conservative by 30, then you have no brain."

It's easy for young people to believe in socialism. After all, most of them have never worked for anything nor actually deserved anything. Anything that they have comes as either entitlement from their parents or the Big Brother. In this situation, where no one really deserves anything of any substance, the only "fair" way to distribute resources is the way of socialism: equality of results.

But, once they grow up, get a job, and start earning a living for themselves, well, every human may be born equal, but their acquired (and even innate) abilities and preferences are sure different—and some people earn more than others. In this situation, the only way to distribute resources fairly is the way of capitalism: equality of opportunity.

Nearly every liberal falls into one of two categories: the naive (these are the young adults), and the power-hungry (these are the billionaires like Steve Jobs that support socialist policies).
